The painting is a story and there is a story behind the painting. The glove on the floor is probably a story unto itself. Please tell all.

This was the kitchen of a flat at the top of Holland Park Avenue, where I lived in the early 1980s. I used to shop at Portobello Road fruit and veg market and stop on the way home at Waterstones booksellers. Many times I’d find the room going dark, dinner uncooked, as I tore through the newly acquired book. My then partner, an avid motorcyclist, and I used to joke that the house was haunted. The glove refers to a prank he pulled when it was tossed in the kitchen as if by a ghost, which is what the partner became, at least in my life. It seemed very chic at the time painting the trim black. Not sure the landlord agreed. I also tore up the Lino and stained the floorboards. The finished painting has a bottle of Fairy Liquid by the sink but this photo was taken before it was done.
