Shade at the Goshute Reservation

July 18, 2007, Reservation of the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute, Ibapah, Utah. An exhausted man takes a break between organizing reinforcements and food for the tribe, which is in the hills working the fire lines as wild fires break out across the Great Basin in the aftermath of the Milford Flat Fire.

When in 2006 the Department of Interior had its collective agencies withdraw their protests to the plans by Southern Nevada to pipe tens of thousands of acre feet of water from the aquifer beneath the reservation 300 miles south to Las Vegas casinos and suburban home-builders, it didn’t consult the tribe.
